[Then in his third year in college, an old friend wrote a poem for the graduating seniors of our dorm group of friends during Seniors Night 1996 at Cervini Hall, Ateneo de Manila. It reads like a series of limericks. :) A lot of old private jokes here. Some things changed (like girlfriends) and some things didn't (like John-D's height). I love the part towards the end where Luis starts talking about his closest friends. I wonder what he's doing nowadays...
Update: According to Rhea Santos, Luis as back in his native Baltimore, got married recently, and is working in D.C.]
Have you seen the guys, whose names are so sweet?
From all over the Philippines, in Cervini, they met.
KC, Jutey-Jutes, Randy and the rest…
All with multiple talents, but being friends is what they do best.
For instance have you seen Vernie kick that footbal?
Or seen his art, fill up paper, fill up a wall?
Do you know all of Gerwin’s talents? He’s in a class all alone.
Singing, dancing, programming, he’s as well-rounded as a stone.
Then there’s Hans, when he walks, girls stop and stare.
With his looks and QPI, life doesn’t seem fair.
Have you seen Marvin C., and his ravishing smile?
His soft-spoken voice,his unassuming style.
Then there’s Jutey-Jutes, who’s always in the spotlight
And now that he’s finished his Thesis, hopefully he’ll graduate all right.
Of course there’s Lloyd Lim, with his eyes so small.
Put him in a room full of women, and he’ll flirt with them all.
There’s the big, kind-hearted Rovic, who’s just got no time you see!
‘Cause Belle made his schedule, ‘til the year two-thousand and three.
Do you know about Dilby T, who really knows how to swing,
And if you ask him a favor, he’ll respond, “Sure thing!”
You might remember Maurice for his trash-talking on the court.
But if you’re ever in trouble, you can count on his support.
Then there’s Gene, whose humor always does the trick.
Who’s got a really big heart, even though he’s got a black ---k!
Let’s talk about Romeo, Juntabs is his name.
Even though he’s a cakeboy, you gotta love him all the same.
Don’t forget about John-D., the smallest of them all.
Whose good humor and disposition make him at least 10…5 feet tall.
Next is the guy, whose personality is sure to join,
Whether it’s pajamas to school, or an elbow in the groin.
Randy Yap, my partner-choreographer in dance
He’s a great guy to know, so c’mon ladies, take a chance!
Yes, of course there is Ralph, a good friend of mine.
Whose conversation and good books, always help pass the time.
On the outside he may seem rough, or under duress,
But deep down he’s a softee, just ask his princess…
Then there’s my cousin BJ, butterfingers of the group.
Who’s been looking for a girlfriend, since 1982.
But I’ll love him always, after all blood is blood.
And I know he’ll find someone, for bad or for good
The last two, I’m sure you know, from their vanity or their hair.
Which seem to change every sem, every year.
The first is Miguel, football player extraordinaire,
Who gets the girls by his side, but just can’t keep them there.
A guy with much thought, which is somewhat of a shame.
‘cause when he screws up, it’s his heart that’s to blame.
But he’s never too flashy, sleazy nor slick.
And be it point guard or good friend, he’s my number one pick.
The last but not the least, goes by the name of Chong.
Who’s always backed me up, whether right or wrong.
We won it all, with the Chopsticks and Wu-Tang Blues
And as far as co-captains go, he’s the one I’d always choose.
And finally, this year, his heart found its mate
And may eternal happiness be their intertwined fate.
Hakim Da Deam, Chong Kimp, all come to the same end.
Kimberly Chong is his name, and I am proud to call him friend.
Sweeties and friends they are called, and I want you guys to know
That I’ll keep you in here (my heart), whereever I may go.
